What the company did
Zhenai (珍爱网) is a Chinese online dating and matchmaking company headquartered in Shenzhen. Originally founded as the China Dating Center in 1998, it was renamed Zhenai in 2004. It combined an online dating site with offline stores staffed by professional matchmakers; by 2016 it operated 36 stores in 28 cities. The company has been dogged by scandals over lax identity verification, fraud by users with fake identities, and aggressive upselling of VIP services at its offline stores.
