01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
NexGen Power Systems designed and manufactured proprietary power conversion systems based on patented Vertical GaN (gallium nitride) technology — the world's first GaN-on-GaN power devices. Its 1200V, 1+MHz switching devices claimed to be the smallest, lightest, and most efficient commercial power systems, targeting data centers, electric vehicles, LED lighting, and computing. Founded in 2017 in Santa Clara, California, by Dinesh Ramanathan and investors led by Ahmad Chatila (Fenice Investment Group), the company built a fab in DeWitt, New York, holds 125+ patents, and ran a US Department of Energy-funded electric-drive project with General Motors.
