What the company did
Aware was a Columbus, Ohio-based artificial intelligence company that built a collaboration security platform for the workplace. Founded in 2017 by Jeff Schumann, James Tsai, Matt Huber and Shawn Domer (originally under the name Wiretap), its AI models analyzed employee conversations across Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other collaboration tools to detect insider threats, compliance violations and confidential information sharing, while also measuring employee sentiment. The company raised a $60 million Series C led by Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, bringing total funding to over $86.9 million, and was acquired by email security provider Mimecast in 2024.
