Osmos
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Osmos was a Seattle data-engineering startup founded in late 2019 by Kirat Pandya (ex-Google Cloud AI/ML, ex-Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB) and Naresh Venkat (ex-Google). Its no-code platform - Uploaders, Pipelines and Datasets plus data agents for Databricks and Fabric - ingested, transformed and reconciled enterprise data automatically to eliminate data silos. It emerged from stealth in 2021 with $13 million led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with CRV, Pear and SV Angel participating, and employed under 20 people.
02 / Osmos FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
There was no collapse: Osmos was acquired by Microsoft, an acquisition exit. The standalone product line is being sunset in January 2026 as the technology is integrated into Microsoft Fabric - a post-acquisition product consolidation, not a failure event.
