01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Threadable was a San Francisco Y Combinator-backed startup offering a smarter mailing list for teams. It made group email actionable: users could mute message threads, turn threads into claimable tasks and mark them done, split off sub-groups having their own discussions, and use webhooks to pre-process emails (auto-translate threads, screen for confidential info, run remote commands, send SMS alerts). Born from the founders' experience running a 200-person Burning Man art crew, it opened to the public in March 2014 with 220 organizations on board, handling 250,000 emails a month. The product was free, with paid business and on-premise tiers planned.
