01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Brighte is an Australian fintech founded in 2015 by Katherine McConnell that provides point-of-sale credit for home energy improvements such as rooftop solar panels and batteries, plus general home renovations. Its digital platform gives real-time credit decisions (about 9 seconds on automated decisions) and offers 0% interest payment plans, interest-bearing green loans and personal loans; since 2015 it has raised $575 million in public debt - including Australia's first all-green asset-backed security in 2020 - and $145 million in equity. Backers include Grok Ventures (Mike Cannon-Brookes), AirTree, Skip Capital and Qualgro. The company also administers government home-electrification loan schemes, including the ACT's $150 million Sustainable Household Scheme and Tasmania's $50 million Energy Saver Loan Scheme, and has financed over 100,000 household solar installations. It remains in business.
