01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

ContainIQ built an out-of-the-box Kubernetes monitoring and observability solution. It let engineers monitor cluster health and troubleshoot issues within clusters and applications faster, running three agents in the cluster: one deployment gathering metrics and events from the Kubernetes API, plus two daemon sets capturing latency data and logs for every pod on each node. Its differentiator was being built around eBPF, delivering an APM-like experience without being an APM. Co-founder and CTO Matthew Lenhard (later co-founder and CEO of Vectoral) described its approach of parsing traces and metrics via eBPF and correlating them with Kubernetes metadata for deeper insight.

Events in the structured record

  1. Product visibility peak

In June 2022 co-founder and CTO Matthew Lenhard presented ContainIQ's eBPF-based Kubernetes observability approach on Software Engineering Daily and in Civo webinars, with dashboards covering latency by microservice and path (p95, p99, RPS) and log-trace correlation.
